Smith Qualifies 12th in Las Vegas
March 4, 2011
Regan Smith will start 12th in Sunday's Kobalt Tools 400 Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
In Friday's time trials, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet covered the 1.5-mile oval in 28.864 seconds at 187.084 miles per hour.
The 12th-place posting snapped Smith's five-race streak of qualifying in the top 10.
"We wanted to be better in qualifying, but overall we had another solid day with our Furniture Row Chevrolet," said Smith, who was eighth fastest in practice. "We're doing a lot of things right and it sure feels good. What I am most happy about is how good our car was in race trim. We'll tweak the car tomorrow in practice and be ready to roll on Sunday."
The pole winner was Matt Kenseth (Ford - 188.884 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Marcos Ambrose (Ford), Carl Edwards (Ford), Greg Biffle (Ford) and Kyle Busch (Toyota).
Sunday's race will be televised on FOX, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 11 a.m. local time (noon MT).
