Martin Truex Jr. will start Sunday's STP 500 Sprint Cup race from the 31st position.

In Friday's knockout style of qualifying at the .526-mile Martinsville Speedway, Truex's No. 78 Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet recorded a best lap time and speed of 19.283 seconds at 98.200 miles per hour.

"I just couldn't get the car to turn, a disappointing result," said Truex. "Our Furniture Row Chevy was better in race trim in the earlier practice. We're hoping to get in more practice time tomorrow, but the weather forecast doesn't look that promising. But you never know, it was supposed to rain today and we got everything in."

The pole winner was Kyle Busch (18.998 at 99.674). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, Jamie McMurray and Danica Patrick.

Sunday's 500-lap race will be televised on FOX, beginning with a 30-minute prerace show at 10:30 a.m. MT (12:30 p.m. ET).
