Smith Qualifies 5th in Texas

April 8, 2011

Regan Smith will start 5th in Saturday night's Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race here at Texas Motor Speedway.

Driving the Farm American Chevrolet, presented by Furniture Row Companies and Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers, Smith covered the ultra fast 1.5-mile oval in 28.731 seconds at 187.950 miles per hour during Friday's time trials.

The result was Smith's sixth top-10 starting position of the season. His only non-top 10 was 12th at the third race of the year in Las Vegas. His season qualifying average of 6.28 leads the Sprint Cup Series.

"The Furniture Row guys working on this Farm American Chevrolet did an awesome job," said Smith. "We’re excited about the Farm American program and having our new partner Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers on our No. 78 car."

Smith added, "This is a brand new car so I’ve got to thank the guys at the shop for an awesome job in building it. I also want to say thanks to the Earnhardt Childress Racing (ECR) engines. They've been great all year.”

The pole winner was David Ragan (28.448 at 189.820). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Carl Edwards, Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth and Regan Smith.

Saturday night's race will be televised on FOX, beginning with a 30-minute prerace show at 5 p.m. MT (6 p.m. local time).
