Smith Qualifies 26th in Texas

April 13, 2012

Regan Smith will start 26th in Saturday night's Samsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup race.

In Friday evening's time trials at Texas Motor Speedway, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet covered the 1.5-mile oval in 28.832 seconds at 187.292 miles per hour.

"We are disappointed with the qualifying performance," said Smith. "We were aiming for the pole after being fifth fastest during yesterday's practice qualifying runs. I got messed up in turn one. The car was tight going into the turn and it just took off sliding up the track. We need to regroup tomorrow and battle our way to the front."

The pole winner was Martin Truex Jr. (190.369 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Mark Martin and Kasey Kahne.

Saturday night's race will be televised on FOX, beginning with a 30-minute prerace show at 5 p.m. MT.
