Smith Qualifies 29th in Kansas
April 21, 2012
Regan Smith will start 29th in Sunday's STP 400 Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway.
In Saturday's time trials, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet covered the 1.5-mile oval in 31.078 seconds at 173.756 miles per hour.
"It was not the qualifying effort that we expected," said Smith. "Though it's disappointing now, we will regroup and be ready to roll for tomorrow's race. We need to be aggressive early in the race because if there are as many green flag runs like we had in Texas last week, you run the high risk of getting lapped."
The pole winner was AJ Allmendinger (175.993 mph). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Mark Martin, Martin Truex Jr., Dale Earnhardt Jr., Clint Bowyer, Kasey Kahne and Sam Hornish Jr.
Sunday's race will be televised on FOX, beginning with a 30-minute prerace show at 10:30 a.m. MT.
