Weather Threat Cancels Cup Qualifying at Talladega

April 24, 2010

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 24, 2010) -- A threat of severe weather at Talladega Superspeedway forced NASCAR to cancel all track activity today (Saturday), including the Sprint Cup qualifying session. The starting lineup for Sunday's Aaron's 499 race will be set according to owner points.

Furniture Row Racing driver Regan Smith will start 31st.

In Friday's first practice session at the 2.66-mile oval, Smith was second fastest on the speed charts. He did not participate in the second practice session since he was happy with the car's setup and did not want to risk getting wrecked on the accident-prone track.

Jimmie Johnson (No. 1 in points) will lead the 43-car field. Rounding out the top-five in order are: Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch.

Sunday’s race will be televised on FOX, beginning with a prerace show at 10 a.m. MT (11 a.m. local time). The green flag is scheduled to drop at 11:20 MT (12:20 local). The forecast for Sunday is partly sunny with temperatures in the low 80s.
