DARLINGTON, S.C. (May 8, 2009) -- Regan Smith continued his perfect qualifying streak with the Furniture Row Racing team. The 25-year-old driver will start 29th in Saturday night's Southern 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Darlington Raceway.

Smith has entered six races this season and has qualified at each event.

In Friday's qualifying session, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet Impala SS covered Darlington's 1.366-mile oval in 28.000 seconds at 175.629 miles per hour.

"It's not what we wanted, but we're racing tomorrow night and that's what counts," said Smith. "I just didn't get all of it. After I watched Jimmie (Johnson) crash earlier, I might have been a little cautious. This track is difficult and it can step up and bite you at anytime. But overall we're in good shape for the race."

The pole winner was Matt Kenseth (179.514 mph). Rounding out the top five were: Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, Sam Hornish Jr. and Joey Logano.

The Southern 500 will be televised on FOX, beginning with a prerace show at 7 p.m. ET.
