Vote for Joe Nemechek: 9news.com tells the story
May 15, 2008
DENVER - NASCAR's All-Star race takes place Saturday night under the lights at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Drivers, like Denver-based Furniture Row racing driver Joe Nemechek, welcome the chance to race without having to worry about Championship points, and the million dollar payout helps too.
The All-Star Race allows drivers to be more aggressive because only the first place driver takes home the money.
Currently, only 21 teams are locked into the race. There are 29 other teams vying for three spots. Two spots will go to the first and second place cars in a 40 lap shootout that take place Saturday afternoon before the Sprint All-Star Race. The third spot is given to the driver voted into the big show by the fans.
"You let it all out and hope that you're one of the two who get into the big show and race with the big dogs," Nemechek said. "We're going to mash the pedal and go for broke."
Joe Nemechek and the #78 Furniture Row car are competing for one of those spots.
Fans can continue to vote to get their favorite driver into the race until Saturday.
