Vote for Kenny
May 16, 2006
Denver, CO- Furniture Row® Racing’s CUP driver, Kenny Wallace will participate in the NEXTEL All Star Challenge Open this weekend at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Furniture Row® Racing's run during the Open will dictate if the #78 car will be racing in NASCAR’s 2006 All Star Challenge later that night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. However, NASCAR puts the fans in the driver’s seat by allowing them to vote in one driver to race in the Challenge.
The Challenge is an all-star event that showcases race winners from the previous and current Nextel Cup seasons. A driver is also eligible if he wins the NEXTEL Open, a 30 lap-qualifying race for drivers not in the Challenge. The last open position in the Challenge is for a driver voted in by fans. To vote for Kenny Wallace go to NASCAR.com and click on the, “Vote-In the Wildcard Now!” banner and follow the directions. There is no limit on the number of times people may vote.
Furniture Row® Racing will be using a new car to participate in the NEXTEL Open. The team will be using Open as an opportunity for track time and a test session for the Coca Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway the following weekend.
Last weekend’s race at Darlington will go down as a DNQ for the team.
Crew Chief Joe Garone explains what went wrong, “We had a rocky practice session figuring out a new car, and didn’t give Kenny what he needed to make the race. We’re in a position in points where we can’t have any glitches in practice or it puts us in jeopardy during qualifying.” On the plus side at Darlington inspection went well, and the team has accrued enough owner’s points to allow participation in qualifying in case of a rain out.
