Denver, CO- Furniture Row® Racing participated in the NASCAR NEXTEL Open last weekend.
The team's primary intention was to use the race as a test opportunity for new #78 car the program will run at this weekend's CoCa Cola 600 at Charlotte.
After an impressive qualifying run, driver Kenny Wallace secured a 15th place position for the Open, and the race was looking promising according to Crew Chief Joe Garone.
However, #78 found trouble on the track.
Garone explains, "Our left rear got tangled up with
#07 Clint Bowyer, and Kenny ended up spinning out. We had to bring the car in to do some work on the body, and had to start at the back of the pack.
But Kenny was able to fight his way to an 18th place finish."
Overall, the Open served as a great test for the team, the program is looking forward to the race this weekend.
The NEXTEL Open was a qualifying race for the NEXTEL CUP Challenge. The Open winner, Scott Riggs secured a position in the Challenge as well as Kyle Petty who was voted in by the fans.
However, the big winner of the night was Jimmy Johnson took home a cool million as the winner of the Challenge.
