Nemechek Qualifies Fifth in Pocono

June 6, 2008

LONG POND, Pa. (June 6, 2008) -- Joe Nemechek was the fifth fastest qualifier Friday at Pocono Raceway, and as a result of the strong performance, the Furniture Row Racing driver will start Sunday's Sprint Cup race from inside of Row 3.

Nemechek's qualifying effort was his second best of the season and he was the fastest among the drivers who needed to qualify on speed.

"Another solid effort by this Furniture Row Racing team," said Nemechek, who was 17th fastest in the earlier practice session. "We've been working hard and it's really neat to see the dividends. I want to thank all the guys on this team. It's a proud day when you out-qualify a lot of good teams."

Nemechek's No. 78 Chevrolet Impala SS toured the 2.5-mile tri-oval in 53.34 seconds at 168.723 miles per hour.

The pole winner was Kasey Kahne (170.219 mph). Rounding out the top five in order were: Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Regan Smith and Nemechek.

Sunday's Pocono 500 will be televised on TNT, beginning with a prerace show at 1:30 p.m. ET (11:30 MT).
