Smith Qualifies 23rd in Michigan

June 11, 2010

BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 11, 2010) -- Regan Smith will start 23rd in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.

Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet covered the two-mile track in Friday's time trials in 38.381 seconds at 187.593 miles per hour.

"We had a good practice today and feel that we can continue our recent momentum," said Smith. "We were looking for a better qualifying lap, but as it turned out it was more advantageous to go out early rather than late. We were initially excited about out 34th-place qualifying draw, but as I said, it didn't play in our favor. Our Furniture Row Chevrolet will ready come Sunday."

The pole winner was Kurt Busch (189.984). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Jamie McMurray, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne and Jeff Burton.

Sunday's Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 will be televised on TNT, beginning with a prerace show at 10 a.m. MT.
