Rain Washes Out Qualifying in Michigan; Nemechek to Start 42nd in Sunday's Cup Race

BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 13, 2008) -- A persistent rain Friday forced NASCAR officials to cancel qualifying at Michigan International Speedway. The starting field for Sunday's LifeLock 400 Sprint Cup race will be set according to NASCAR's rule book.

Joe Nemechek, driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet, will start 42nd. The first 35 positions were based on current owner points. The next two spots were past Cup champions (Bill Elliott and Terry Labonte) and the remaining six positions for the 43-car field were based on owner attempts/owner points.

"We have mixed feelings," said Nemechek. "We wanted to go out there and get ourselves a good starting position. But on the other hand it's nice to know you're in the big show. One little slip on the track -- you could be on the outside looking in."

Two practice sessions are scheduled for Cup teams on Saturday.

Sunday's race will be televised on TNT, beginning with a prerace show at 1:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. MT).
