Michigan Result -- A Continuing Work in Progress for Nemechek, Furniture Row Racing
June 15, 2008
BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 15, 2008) -- Though the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Team posted a 28th-place finish in Sunday's Sprint Cup race, Joe Nemechek and crew chief Jay Guy feel the team continues to make gains on the Car of Tomorrow.
"The finish doesn't always tell the story, but we didn't have a bad day," said Nemechek. "We're learning a lot every week. It's not easy trying to figure out this car."
Because of qualifying being canceled due to rain on Friday, Nemechek started 42nd in the 43-car field. He did charge forward, getting into the low 20s before slipping back.
"We made a good adjustment after the first pit stop," offered Nemechek. "We went from being tight to having a pretty good handling car. I know the finish is not what we wanted, but I am excited about how we're showing improvement and getting a better handle on our Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet Impala SS."
The race, which went into overtime with a green-white-checkered finish, had seven cautions for 22 laps. The race winner was Dale Earnhardt Jr. Rounding out the top five in order were: Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Brian Vickers and Tony Stewart.
The next event for the Sprint Cup Series will be Sunday, June 22 in Sonoma, Calif. It will be the first of the two road-course events of the season.
