June 29, 2012
Regan Smith will start 26th in Saturday night's Quaker State 400 Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway.
In Friday's time trials, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row/CSX Play it Safe Chevrolet covered the 1.5-mile oval in 30.687 seconds at 175.970 miles per hour.
"We didn't connect on that qualifying lap," said Smith. "The car was loose and couldn't get the grip that was needed. We're going to have to battle our way forward tomorrow night."
The pole winner was Jimmie Johnson (181.818 mph). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Clint Bowyer, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Brad Keselowski, Jeff Gordon and Martin Truex Jr.
Saturday night's race will be televised on TNT, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 4:30 p.m. MT (6:30 p.m. ET)
