Nemechek 4th Fastest Qualifier in Daytona

July 4, 2008

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 4, 2008) -- Joe Nemechek jumped in his new Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet and powered it to a fourth-place starting position for Saturday night's Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway.

In Friday's qualifying session at the World Center of Racing, Nemechek toured the 2.5-mile oval in 48.573 seconds at 185.288 miles per hour. He was the fastest of the go-or-go-home drivers.

"All the credit goes to (crew chief) Jay Guy and all the team members," said Nemechek after recording his third top five qualifying result of the season. "Having Hendrick horsepower is also a big advantage."

"We came here not knowing how this new Chevy Impala SS would run," added Nemechek. "But it came through in flying colors. We're going forward tomorrow night and I look for a good result in our No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet."

The pole winner was Paul Menard (185.916 mph). Rounding out the top five in order were: Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Nemechek and Johnny Sauter.

Saturday night's Coke Zero 400 will be televised on TNT, beginning with a 90-minute prerace show at 4:30 p.m. MT (6:30 ET).
