Denver, CO- Furniture Row® Racing’s CUP team was able to secure its first top 20 starting position at Loudon last weekend. According to Crew Chief Joe Garone, the team enjoyed some new perks with their 19th place in the starting grid. Garone states, “It was exciting because not only do you race with a completely different set of cars, but you also get to pick a better position on pit road. This allowed us to have better positioning both coming in, and exiting.”
The race was on target to be the program’s best finish to date, however a rear brake pad exploded causing driver Kenny Wallace to lose control and crash the #78 car.
Wallace was not injured in the crash.
Despite the disappointment of the crash, Garone felt the weekend was a major move in the right direction. Garone explained, “This is another step in the journey to become a competitive team at every event.”
Next weekend Jimmy Spencer returns to drive the #78 Furniture Row® CUP car at Pocono. The team will be running one of its new specification cars. Garone feels confident that this weekend the team will surpass their prior 32nd place finish at Pocono from earlier this season.
Furniture Row® Racing Busch Series will be running Martinsville’s half mile this weekend as well.
Jerry Robertson is back in the driver's seat for the #78 team. The program has an open practice scheduled the day before the race. This will help Robertson and Crew Chief, Dave Hatfield dial in the car. Robertson, a short track expert, provided with a good car with good pit stops, is expected to secure one of their best finishes this season.
