Full Speed Ahead
August 1, 2006
Denver, CO- After a week off, the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup series tackles one of the most unique racetracks in all of motor sports, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 2.5-mile, mostly flat surface has its quirks, particularly an unforgiving entry into turns 1 & 2, which are almost 90-degree angles. The long, narrow front stretch is one of the key places to pass, which means discipline behind the wheel is crucial for Cup driver Kenny Wallace. Wallace will be back in the driver's seat of the #78 Furniture Row® Chevy Monte
Carlo in NASCAR's biggest race of the season in terms of fan attendance, boasting an impressive 300,000 onlookers.
Hopes are high for #78 team as they head to the Brickyard based on an exceptionally promising test run three weeks ago according to Crew Chief Joe Garone. The team secured one of top ten practice speeds out of a fleet of 60 cars with Wallace. Garone explains, "We had a good Indy test in a new Mb2 car, and Kenny was super excited about the potential speed he felt the car had in it. We continue to work on our total package in an effort to rise to a competitive level, and this car seemed to show real promise from an aero
standpoint. Qualifying will be our biggest challenge, as there is 50+ cars entered in the event, however were very optimistic after the car tested so well."
In addition to preparing for Indy, Furniture Row Racing has been busy testing with road racer, Max Papis at Virginia International Raceway this week. Papis will make his Cup debut with the #78 team at Watkins Glen on August 13th.
