Truex Jr. Qualifies 19th in Pocono

August 1, 2014

Martin Truex Jr. will start 19th (inside of Row 10) in Sunday's GoBowling.com 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway.

Truex advanced to the second of three rounds of qualifying competition Friday afternoon. His No. 78 Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet lapped the 2.5-mile triangular track in 49.963 seconds at 180.133 miles per hour.

"Actually the car handled well, better than it did in practice," said Truex. "We just didn't have enough speed to advance to the final session of qualifying. This is something we're going to work on during the two practices tomorrow. I still have a good feeling about this place, we just need to work out a few items, especially in the speed department."

The pole winner was Kyle Larson (49.063 at 183.438). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Jamie McMurray, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Danica Patrick.

Sunday's race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 10 a.m. MT (noon ET).
