Regan Smith will start 11th in Sunday's Pennsylvania 400 Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.
In Saturday's qualifying session at the 2.5-mile triangular track, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet posted a lap time and speed of 51.418 seconds at 175.036 miles per hour.
"It was a pretty good lap, but we lost speed i
n Turn 3 when the car started to drift," said Smith. "But it was still a solid effort. Our car was also fast in race trim during yesterday's practices. We're making gains and now we have to go out there tomorrow and take advantage of what we have. Barring any problems, I feel we can come out of here with a strong result."
The pole winner was Juan Pablo Montoya (176.043 mph). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Denny Hamlin, Paul Menard, Kasey Kahne, Marco Ambrose, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ryan Newman and Jimmie Johnson.
The Pennsylvania 400 will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 10 a.m. MT (noon ET).
