Smith Qualifies 17th in Pocono

Regan Smith will start 17th in Sunday's Good Sam RV Insurance 500 at Pocono Raceway.

In Saturday's qualifying session, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet toured the 2.5-mile triangular track in 53.768 seconds at 170.558 miles per hour.

Smith entered the qualifying session after having the 12th and ninth fastest speeds respectively in Friday's two practice sessions.

"We slipped a little from practice, but nothing major," said Smith. "It's a long race (200 laps, 500 miles) and we have plenty of time to get to the front. I was really pleased with the performance of our Furniture Row Chevrolet in practice and hopefully that will transfer into tomorrow's race. We want to keep the momentum after finishing third last week in Indy."

The pole winner was Joey Logano (172.055 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Kasey Kahne, Martin Truex Jr., Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch.

Sunday's race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a prerace show at 10 a.m. MT.
