Smith to Start 27th in Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 7, 2010) -- Regan Smith qualified 27th for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup road race at Watkins Glen International.
In Saturday morning's time trials at the 2.45-mile, 11-turn road course, the central New York native and driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet recorded a lap time and speed of 72.419 seconds at 121.791 miles per hour.
"We were hoping for more, but we'll get after it again tomorrow and start to move forward when the green flag drops," said the 26-year-old Smith. "We were pretty good race in trim conditions during Friday's practices. We are encouraged each week, knowing that this is an improving Furniture Row Racing team."
The pole winner was Carl Edwards (124.432 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Jamie McMurray, Juan Pablo Montoya, AJ Allmendinger and Kurt Busch.
Sunday's Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 10 a.m. MT.
