August 11, 2012
Regan Smith will start 13th for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup road race at Watkins Glen International.
During Saturday's time trials, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet toured the seven-turn, 2.45-mile road course in 70.216 seconds at 125.612 miles per hour.
"Where we ended up says it wasn't t
hat bad of a lap, but I personally felt it was a little sloppy," said a candid Smith. "We've had a fast car all weekend and I am really proud of the guys on this Furniture Row team. We have an opportunity to do something good tomorrow, and we're going to work hard to accomplish that. Watkins Glen is home track for me and it would sure be nice to walk out of here with a strong finish."
Juan Pablo Montoya captured the pole with a speed of 127.020 mph. Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski, Marcos Ambrose, Ryan Newman, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr. and Jamie McMurray.
Sunday's Finger Lakes 355 at The Glen will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 10 a.m. MT (noon ET).
