Nemechek Stuck in Traffic, Finishes 34th in Michigan
August 17, 2008
BROOKLYN, Mich. (Aug. 17, 2008) -- Joe Nemechek battled an aerodynamic problem as he finished 34th in Sunday's 3M Performance 400 Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.
"When you qualify in the back you're at a horrible aero disadvantage," said Nemechek, who started the 200-lap, 400-mile race from the same position as he finished.
Nemechek's Furniture Row Racing crew made a number of adjustments to the team's No. 78 Chevrolet, but nothing seemed to click.
"We fought the racecar all day," added Nemechek. "We tried different combinations, but we just couldn't get the car to handle in traffic. It's difficult when you're fighting aero issues while being in the back of the pack. Very few teams in that position can actually run to the front. We just need to qualify better in our Furniture Row Chevy Impala SS."
The next stop for Nemechek and the No. 78 team will be at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway for the popular night race, slated for Saturday, Aug. 23. In preparation for Bristol's half-mile bullring, the Furniture Row Racing team spent a day testing last week at the 7/8th mile track in Newton, Iowa.
