A steady rain in the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee forced NASCAR officials to cancel Friday's qualifying session at Bristol Motor Speedway. The majority of the 43-car starting lineup for Saturday night's Irwin Tools 500 Sprint Cup race will be set according to how teams ranked in Friday's first pract
Regan Smith was 14th fastest (121.474 mph) in the first practice and that's where his No. 78 Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet will start the 500-lap race on the half-mile oval. Smith also showed his mettle in the second practice session by recording the seventh-fastest speed of 121.620.
"Starting 14th isn't that bad, but I sure would have liked to see qualifying take place," said Smith, who had a starting average of 7.0 in the last three Bristol races. "But the good news for our Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet is that we have a good car for tomorrow night. We were happy with our two practice sessions today."
Starting on the pole will be Casey Mears. Rounding out the top-10 in order are: Brad Keselowski, Greg Biffle, Joey Logano, Aric Almirola, Jeff Burton, Paul Menard, Denny Hamlin, Marcos Ambrose and Kyle Busch.
Saturday night's race will be televised on ABC, beginning with a 30-minute prerace show at 5 p.m. MT (7 p.m. ET).
