Denver, CO- Furniture Row® Racing’s Cup program got back on track at Bristol Motor Speedway last weekend. Driver Kenny Wallace nabbed a 30th place finish in front of an estimated 160,000 fans.
Crew Chief Joe Garone provides the details. “While we didn’t have a high finishing position, we had a good weekend. Qualifying 26th started off the weekend on track. We ended up finishing the race without getting tangled in a wreck, which was a positive. We didn’t have the best race; however we met our goals.
The team learned a lot, and will carry what we learned forward to Fontana.”
The next race on the roster for the CUP team is Fontana, CA. The California Speedway was built by Roger Penske and features a D-shaped two-mile oval. Banking consists of 14 degrees in the turns, 11 degrees on the front stretch, and 3 degrees on the backstretch. Driver Kenny Wallace will be behind the wheel of the #78 Chevy Monte Carlo.
Garone comments on this weekend’s effort. “This will be the second time this year we will run at Fontana, and are looking forward to bettering our performance. We will be taking Kenny's favorite car and the engine department has a bullet built for this race. If we can get the handling nailed down, we look forward to running a strong race.”
A strong qualifying effort is also a primary goal for the team. However, the history at California Speedway dictates a strong starting position is not essential for a strong finish. Seven of the last nine races have been won from starting positions outside the top-15.
This includes the 2006 spring race won by Matt Kenseth from the 31st starting position.
The Busch Series will also take to the track as well this weekend in California.
