Getting Geared Up
September 5, 2007
Furniture Row Racing qualified 29th last weekend at California Speedway. Joe Nemechek was behind the wheel of the 78 for this first time and secured a successful qualifying effort. Throughout the weekend of blistering heat, the team was anxiously anticipating the race. However, the race was cut short for the Colorado based program, as a blown engine sent them behind the wall.
Joe Garone, the General Manager of Furniture Row Racing explains.
“Joe Nemechek did a great job for our team.
After his qualifying run, Joe relayed to the team that the car was much better than what he got out of it. After qualifying 29th, Joe was upset because he felt the car had a top 15 in it. This was one more reminder of how difficult it is to qualify. There is so much pressure on these drivers when the threat of missing the race hangs on a few hundredths of a second. At the start of the race, Joe was able to race immediately, and felt he had one of the best cars he has ever had at California. Unfortunately, it all came to an end on lap 8 when our engine blew up. We are all very excited to go to Richmond and continue growing our relationship with such a professional as Joe.”
