Tropical Storm Hanna Forces NASCAR to Postpone Races Until Sunday
September 5, 2008
RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 5, 2008) -- Due to the fast-approaching Tropical Storm Hanna, NASCAR has rescheduled Saturday night's Chevy Rock & Roll 400 Sprint Cup race at Richmond International Raceway to Sunday at 1 p.m. ET (ESPN).
Tonight's (Friday) Nationwide Series race has been postponed until Sunday, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2).
Rain washed out Friday's Cup qualifying and the 43-car starting field will be set according to NASCAR's rulebook. Furniture Row Racing driver Joe Nemechek will start 41st.
"Fortunately we had a good practice today," said Nemechek. "We were in race trim for most of the practice because we saw the rain coming and felt that qualifying would be canceled. You hate to see a race get rescheduled, but there's a severe storm heading this way and fan safety comes first."
