Cup Qualifying Washed Out in New Hampshire

September 12, 2008

LOUDON, N.H. (Sept. 12, 2008) -- Rain forced NASCAR to cancel Sprint Cup qualifying Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The starting field for Sunday's Sylvania 300 will be set according to NASCAR's rulebook.

Joe Nemechek, driving the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet Impala SS, will start 42nd.

"I am disappointed because we had a pretty good car in practice today," said Nemechek. "We were in position to claim a top-20 starting position for Sunday's race. Starting at the rear of the field here is a huge handicap. But we'll do everything possible to get our Furniture Row Chevy to the front."

Cup teams have two practice sessions scheduled for Saturday.

Sunday's race will be televised on ABC, beginning with a prerace show at 1 p.m. ET (11 a.m. MT).
