Regan Smith will start 17th in Sunday's Sylvania 300 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

In Friday's qualifying session at the 1.058-mile oval, Smith's Furniture Row Chevrolet recorded a lap of 28.476 seconds at 133.755 miles per hour.

"With rain in the forecast for tomorrow (Saturday) we concentrated almost all of our practice time today in race trim," said Smith, who was 18th fastest in practice. "We would have liked to have a better starting position, but we can work with the 17th spot."

The pole winner was Ryan Newman (135.002 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Kasey Kahne, Brian Vickers, Greg Biffle and Kurt Busch.

Sunday's race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 11 a.m. MT.
