Smith Qualifies 18th in Dover

September 24, 2010

DOVER, Del. (Sept. 24, 2010) -- Regan Smith will start 18th in Sunday's AAA 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway. It was the third straight top-20 qualifying effort for Smith and the Denver, Colo.-based Furniture Row Racing team.

"We're starting to get more consistent, which is a credit to everyone in the organization," said Smith. "It was a smooth lap and everything overall felt good. During practice in race trim the Furniture Row Chevy had decent balance, but we still have a little work ahead of us and that's what the two practice sessions are for tomorrow."

In Friday's time trials, Smith rounded the all-concrete Monster Mile in 23.324 seconds at 154.347 miles.

The pole winner was Jimmie Johnson (155.736 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: AJ Allmendinger, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin and Juan Pablo Montoya.

Sunday's 400-lap, 400-mile race will be televised on ESPN, 11 a.m. MT. A 60-minute prerace show will air at 10 a.m. MT on ESPN2.
