Smith Qualifies 18th in Dover
September 29, 2012
Regan Smith will start 18th in Sunday's AAA 400 Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway.
In Saturday afternoon's time trials, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet covered the Monster Mile in 22.835 seconds at 157.653 miles per hour.
"As I have said many times Dover is a track I really like and we'll be ready to tackle the all-concrete oval in tomorrow's race," said Smith. "I would have liked a better starting position, but we're ok and feel that we can move forward. We haven't had the best of luck at Dover in recent outings so hopefully things will turn around and we'll be able to bring home a solid finish in the Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet."
The pole winner was Denny Hamlin (159.299 mph). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr., Sam Hornish Jr., Kyle Busch, Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne and Brad Keselowski.
Sunday's race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 11 a.m. MT (1 p.m. ET).
