Nemechek 7th Fastest in Talladega
October 4, 2008
TALLADEGA, Ala. (Oct. 4, 2008) -- Joe Nemechek once again ripped off a stout superspeedway qualifying run. In Saturday's time trials at Talladega Superspeedway, the Furniture Row Racing driver claimed the seventh starting position for Sunday's Amp Energy 500 Sprint Cup race.
Nemechek's No. 78 Chevy Impala SS toured the 2.66-mile oval in 51.217 seconds at 186.969 miles per hour.
"The Furniture Row Chevy drove great -- we were just a tick off of claiming a front row starting position," said Nemechek. "This is the car that we won the pole with back in the spring race here. But it had to be rebuilt after being involved in a big wreck on the final lap of the race. All-in-all I am really happy with the performance. We need to put it all together tomorrow and come away with a strong finish."
The pole winner was Travis Kvapil with a top speed of 187.364. Rounding out the top five in order were: Casey Mears, Aric Almirola, Regan Smith and Paul Menard.
Nemechek's qualifying efforts in the four superspeedway races this year include: third fastest at Pole Day for the Daytona 500, first at the spring race in Talladega, fourth at the Daytona summer race and seventh today.
Sunday's race will be televised on ABC, beginning with a prerace show at noon local time (11 a.m. MT).
