Smith Qualifies 16th in Kansas

October 7, 2011

Regan Smith will start 16th in Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400 Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway.

In Friday afternoon's time trials, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet covered the 1.5-mile oval in 31.119 seconds at 173.527 miles per hour.

"Based on how we practiced in qualifying trim (11th fastest), I was looking for a better starting spot," said Smith. "We just didn't get everything out of the lap. It wasn't that bad of a lap, but we obviously wanted better. We need to fine tune the car tomorrow and move forward in Sunday's race."

The pole winner was Greg Biffle (174.887 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth and Kasey Kahne.

Smith's No. 78 Chevy this weekend is supporting the Farm American program, which is an effort by Furniture Row Racing and its financial partner, Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers, to bring awareness to the importance of keeping America's food supply produced in the United States.

Sunday's Cup race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 11 a.m. (noon local time).
