Nemechek, Furniture Row Racing Take Momentum to Charlotte
October 8, 2008
DENVER (Oct. 8, 2008) – Continuing the momentum is Joe Nemechek's main objective for this weekend's Sprint Cup race at Lowe's Motor Speedway near Charlotte.
The Furniture Row Racing driver qualified seventh and finished 11th in Sunday's race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. It was the best career finish for the 3-year-old Furniture Row team, which is based in Denver, Colo.
"We have to keep it going and finish off the season strong," said Nemechek. "Talladega was fun for all of us. It was a morale lift to have our Furniture Row Chevy in contention for the win as the race was winding down. Being a single-car team and running neck-and-neck with those big multicar operations was pretty cool."
Nemechek would like nothing better than to find himself in a similar position for Saturday night's race at the 1.5-mile oval. But before the green flag drops to start the Bank of America 500, the No. 78 team's focus will be to make the 43-car starting field.
"I really like the Lowe's track and had a couple of shots at winning there in recent years," offered Nemechek. "But lately we've had trouble finding the right package for the track. Before we get to Saturday’s race, we have to make sure we're ready for Thursday night's qualifying session."
If Nemechek has some trepidation it's probably because he has not qualified the Furniture Row Chevy in the last two races at Lowe's.
"We just need to forget about the past and get this Furniture Row Racing Chevy qualified this weekend," said Nemechek. "We have to make the right tweaks to the setup and then I have to get the car through the corners."
For the record, Nemechek has qualified in 18 straight Sprint Cup events since not making the 43-car show at Lowe's Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600 Memorial Day weekend race.
"When we failed to qualify at Lowe's back in May we set a goal of making sure that it didn't happen again," offered Nemechek. "So far, we're right on schedule and I don't see any reason why we should not qualify in any of the remaining six races of the season."
