FONTANA, Calif. (Oct. 8, 2010) – Regan Smith continued his top-20 qualifying streak. The Furniture Row Racing driver posted the 19th fastest run in Friday’s time trials here at Auto Club Speedway and will start on the inside of Row 10 for Sunday’s Pepsi Max 400.

Smith’s No. 78 Chevrolet covered the 2-mile oval in 39.357 seconds at 182.941 miles per hour. It was the fifth straight race that Smith has earned a starting position in the top 20.

“We made a nice gain from practice,” said Smith, who was 29th fastest in the earlier practice session. “I felt I got through turns one and two pretty good, but stumbled a little in (turns) three and four. I feel we have a good baseline to work from to get our Furniture Row Chevy ready for Sunday. Tomorrow’s (Saturday) practice sessions are going to be important.”

The pole winner was Jamie McMurray (185.285 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Elliott Sadler, Matt Kenseth, Juan Pablo Montoya and Kasey Kahne.

Sunday’s race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at noon MT (2 p.m. ET).
