October 13, 2011
Regan Smith will start 21st in Saturday night's Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Smith's qualifying lap Thursday night at the 1.5-mile oval was 28.357 seconds at 190.429 miles per hour.
"I just didn't get enough in turns three and four," said Smith, who was fifth fastest in the earlier practice session. "We had a higher expectation than 21st, but on the bright side we have a good Furniture Row Chevrolet for Saturday night's race. We'll take care of the car's fine tuning during tomorrow's practice sessions."
The pole winner was Tony Stewart (191.959 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, AJ Allmendinger and Greg Biffle.
Saturday night's 334-lap race will be televised on ABC, beginning with a 30-minute prerace show at 5 p.m. MT.
