Smith Qualifies 22nd in Talladega

Regan Smith will start 22nd in Sunday's Good Sam Club 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway.

In Saturday's time trials, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet covered the 2.66-mile oval in 53.305 seconds at 179.645 miles per hour.

"We had a good practice in race trim yesterday and feel we're ready to go out there and challenge for the win," said Smith. "It's about racing smart and staying out of trouble. We've been close before and hopefully it will all come together for Furniture Row Racing on Sunday."

The pole winner was Mark Martin (181.367 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer, Trevor Bayne and Jeff Gordon.

Sunday's 188-lap race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a prerace show at 11 a.m. MT.
