Regan Smith will start 10th in Sunday's AAA Texas 500 Sprint Cup race.

In Friday's qualifying session at Texas Motor Speedway, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet toured the 1.5-mile oval in 27.995 seconds at 192.892 miles per hour.

"A top-10 starting position is good, but it's hard to be satisfied because you always want better," said Smith. "I was a little free going into turns one and two, but better in (turns) three and four. I was also pleased about how our Furniture Row Chevrolet practiced in race trim today."

Sprint Cup teams are scheduled for two additional practice sessions on Saturday.

The pole winner was Greg Biffle (193.736 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: David Ragan, Matt Kenseth, Paul Menard and Tony Stewart.

Sunday's race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at noon MT.
