Smith Qualifies for Texas Cup Race

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 6, 2009) -- Regan Smith passed the first hurdle at Texas Motor Speedway, qualifying his No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet for Sunday's Dickies 500 Sprint Cup race.
In Friday's time trials, Smith lapped the 1.5-mile oval in 28.725 seconds at 187.990 miles per hour to qualify 32nd. He will start on the outside of Row 16.
It was the 17th time in 18 races entered this season that Smith has qualified the part-time Furniture Row Racing entry.
"We made a pick up from practice and that's what we needed to do," offered the 26-year-old Smith. "We work together well and Jay (Guy, crew chief) listens to all the input and makes the final call. It's a great working relationship. We have two practices tomorrow and we'll continue to discuss the best setup for Sunday. We're getting a better handle each time we go to a race."
The pole winner was Jeff Gordon (191.117 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Kasey Kahne, Kurt Busch, Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch.
Sunday's race will be televised on ABC, beginning with a prerace show at 12:30 p.m. MT.
