Kurt Busch Qualifies 16th at Chicagoland Speedway
September 13, 2013
Kurt Busch will start 16th in Sunday's Geico 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.
In Friday's time trials Busch's No. 78 Furniture Row/Serta Chevrolet SS toured the 1.5-mile oval in 28.712 seconds at 188.075 miles per hour.
"I hesitated in turn two and didn't get the job done," said Busch, who was second fastest in the earlier qualifying-trim practice. "We just need to bide our time on Sunday and get to the front. Our Furniture Row/Serta Chevy was fast in race trim and we will continue to work on the setup during Saturday's practices."
The Chicagoland race is the first of the 10 Chase playoff races that will determine the 2013 Sprint Cup Series champion. The Chase field was expanded from 12 to 13 on Friday when NASCAR announced the addition of Jeff Gordon.
The Geico 400 pole winner was Joey Logano (28.509 at 189.414). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Brad Keselowski, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kasey Kahne, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Jeff Gordon, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth.
Sunday's race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 11 a.m. MT (noon local time - CT).
