Martin Truex Jr. Pole Qualifying Recap
February 11, 2018
Martin Truex Jr. was 26th fastest in Sunday’s Daytona 500 pole qualifying
Pole qualifying only locked in the front row for next Sunday’s Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. The remaining lineup for the Great American Race will be determined after Thursday’s Cam-Am Duels 60-lap, 150-mile qualifying races.
Truex’s qualifying elapsed time and speed at the 2.5-mile tri-oval were: 47.002 seconds at 191.481 miles per hour.
“Our Bass Pro Shops/5-hour ENERGY Toyota was actually a little slower than we ran in practice yesterday,” noted Truex. “In single car runs we’ve been off a bit on speed. I don’t know, new rules package and all, we’re just trying to figure that out.
“Looking forward to racing in today’s Clash to see how our car will perform in the draft. There’s not a whole lot you can do when you get down here. You kind of got what you got. We’re going to hope that our can handle really well and we can out drive them in race trim.”
Alex Bowman (195.644 mph) claimed the pole and Denny Hamlin was second fastest (195.092).
