#78 Leads The Pack During Testing
April 4, 2007
Kenny Wallace led Tuesday's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series test session at Richmond International Raceway today, topping the speed charts at 122.416 mph (22.056 seconds). Clint Bowyer was second fastest with a speed of 122.399 mph (22.059 seconds). Fifty-one drivers turned laps around America's Premier Short Track for the first of two days of testing, in preparation for the Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday, May 5.
Overall, the top five drivers on the day were: 1.
Kenny Wallace: 122.416 mph (22.056 seconds) 2.
Clint Bowyer: 122.399 mph (22.059 seconds)3.
Jeff Gordon: 122.360 mph (22.066 seconds) 4.
Dave Blaney: 122.095 mph (22.144 seconds)5.
Matt Kenseth: 121.836 mph (22.161 seconds)
The test results comes a big moral booster to the #78 team after a disappointing qualifying run a Martinsville last weekend. Mechanical issues during practice dramatically ate into the team’s practice time. Ultimately, the team did not have enough time to sort out the car, and that negatively impacted the qualifying run.
Forging ahead, the team wraps up testing at Richmond Thursday, and will re-focus their efforts on tackling Texas Motor Speedway.
