Rain Cancels Cup Qualifying in Dover; Smith to Start 11th
May 14, 2011
Persistent rain at Dover International Speedway forced NASCAR officials to cancel Saturday's Sprint Cup qualifying session. The 43-car starting field for Sunday's FexEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks was set according to the fastest speeds from Friday's practice sessions.
Regan Smith, driving the No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet, will start 11th -- the inside of Row 6.
"We're good and I am happy with how our car handled yesterday in practice," said Smith. "Our goal is to stay on the lead lap, run up front and get as many points as possible. We want to be there at the end because you never know what can happen. We proved that last week in Darlington. My only concern right now is having dry weather so we get this race completed."
Starting on the pole will be Jimmie Johnson. Rounding out the top-five in order will be: A.J. Allmendinger, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kasey Kahne and Joey Logano.
The 400-lap, 400-mile race at the Monster Mile will be televised on FOX, beginning with a 30-minute prereace show at 10:30 a.m. MT.
