May 15, 2015

Martin Truex Jr. qualified seventh for tonight's Sprint Showdown at Charlotte Motor Speedway (Fox Sports 1 at 5:15 p.m. MT). During Friday's qualifying, Truex's No. 78 Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet covered the 1.5-mile oval in 28.715 seconds at 188.101 miles per hour.

The Sprint Showdown twin 20-lap races are for drivers who have not already qualified for Saturday night's non-points Sprint All-Star Race. In order to advance into the all star event, a driver must win one of the two 20-lap segments in the Sprint Showdown or win the Sprint fan vote. According to Sprint, Truex is in the top-five in fan votes with Clint Bowyer, Kyle Larson and Danica Patrick and Josh Wise.

The 17 drivers who have already qualified for the Sprint All-Star race have either won a race in 2014 or 2015,  or are former Sprint Cup Series champions or former All-Star winners. The remaining three slots will come from the Sprint Showdown and fan vote.

The pole winner was Paul Menard (28.470 at 189.673). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Greg Biffle, David Ragan, Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon, Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Jr., Danica Patrick, Casey Mears and Michael McDowell.
