Qualifying Washed Out in Pocono; Smith to Start 42nd
June 5, 2009
LONG POND, Pa. (June 5, 2009) -- The good news for Regan Smith is that he will start Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.
The bad news for Smith was that qualifying was rained out Friday, which prevented him the opportunity of securing a better starting position. Per the NASCAR rulebook, he will start 42nd for the 200-lap, 500 mile race.
"It's nice to know that you're in the big show, but we're also disappointed because we were confident that our Furniture Row Chevy would have performed better than 42nd," said Smith, who will be making his eighth Cup start of the season. "We just have to be patient on Sunday and work our way through the field."
Practice was also rained out Friday. Cup teams have two practice sessions scheduled for Saturday.
Sunday's race will be televised on TNT, beginning with a prerace show at 10:30 a.m. MT. The race is scheduled to start at noon MT.
