Nemechek Qualifies in Nail-Biter at New Hampshire
June 27, 2008
LOUDON, N.H. (June 27, 2008) -- Joe Nemechek hung on the bubble and didn't know his qualifying fate until the final car made its lap Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
It all turned out to be good news for Nemechek, who qualified for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race, but the Furniture Row Racing driver will start at the rear of the field in the 43rd position.
"Our Furniture Row Racing Chevy was pretty good car in practice, but something obviously didn't go right in qualifying," said Nemechek. "Our second lap was a lot better, but then the car got loose and I tagged the wall. It was touch and go if we were going to qualify or not. But we're in the show and that's all that counts."
Nemechek's elapsed time and speed during his qualifying lap at the 1.058-mile oval was 30.135 seconds at 126.391 miles per hour.
The pole winner was Patrick Carpentier with a speed of 129.776. Rounding out the top five in order were: Bobby Labonte, Scott Riggs, Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
The qualifying session was interrupted for nearly two hours due to heavy rain.
The LENOX Tools 301 will be televised on TNT, beginning with a prerace show at 12:30 p.m. EDT, 10:30 a.m. MDT.
