Smith Qualifies 30th in Michigan
August 19, 2011
Regan Smith will start 30th in Sunday's Pure Michigan 400 Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.
In Friday afternoon's time trials, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet covered the two-mile oval in 38.639 seconds at 186.340 miles per hour.
"We just didn't connect with our qualifying setup today," said Smith. "The changes we made after practice didn't take. This is not what we anticipated, but we'll push harder on Sunday and work our way to the front. We need to take advantage of the two-hour practice session tomorrow to find the right tune-up for our Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet."
The pole winner was Greg Biffle (190.345 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin and Mark Martin.
Sunday's 200-lap, 400-mile race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a prerace show at 10 a.m. MT.
