Smith Qualifies 12th in Bristol
August 26, 2011
Regan Smith will start 12th in Saturday's IRWIN Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
In Friday afternoon's time trials, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet covered the .533-mile, high-banked oval in 15.721 seconds at 122.053 miles per hour.
"I am disappointed to be honest," said Smith, who posted the eighth fastest qualifying-trim lap in practice. "We qualified really well here last time (third). The Furniture Row Chevy was a little too loose. But we have a good car for tomorrow night and hopefully we can improve from our 13th-place finish last week in Michigan."
The pole winner was Ryan Newman (122.670 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin.
Saturday night's Sprint Cup race will be televised on ABC, beginning with a prerace show at 5 p.m. M T.
