Truex Jr Qualifies 6th at Martinsville
October 27, 2018
Martin Truex Jr. qualified sixth in the No. 78 5-hour ENERGY/Bass Pro Shops Toyota for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway.
Truex lapped the .526-mile paper clip-shaped oval in 19.739 seconds at 95.932 mph in the pole round of qualifying. He was ninth in the first round and eighth in the second. The No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota will line up on the outside of Row 3 for Sunday’s 500-lap, 263-mile race.
“Obviously you want to be first but sixth is a decent day,” said Truex. “The 5-hour Toyota was just a little bit too tight every run. We kept freeing it up but just never quite got on top of it. Hopefully, we’ll figure it out for the race and have a good run.”
Sunday’s race will be the seventh of the 10-race NASCAR Cup Series playoffs and the first race for the Round of 8.
Kyle Busch won the pole. He was followed by Clint Bowyer, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Aric Almirola, Truex, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez, Kyle Larson, and William Byron.
Coverage of Sunday’s race will air live beginning at 12:30 MT (2:30 p.m. ET) on NBC, SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90 and MRN.
